The Writer's Passage - a journey to the sources of creativity

The Writer's Passage book cover The Writer's Passage (formerly Working the Word) is a part time course that offers a new approach to the art of creative writing: a journey through time in which students experience the whole literary adventure of humanity through their own writing. I have modelled the course on the principles of Waldorf Education modified to suit adult writers. I have found that following the course of historical time greatly enhanced creative capability and writing momentum.

This course is available online.

Bardo of the West - exploring life afer death

Bardo course flyer Bardo of the West is a 7 day creative writing intensive on the essential stages of biography including the phases of life after death. The process is based on the transformation of memory into imagination and the ability of individuals to support each other in the journey through the depth dimension of soul.

  • Making a Life Map by following archetypal themes contained in the seven-year cycles and writing them down.
  • From Memory to Imagination utilizes our ability to transform our memories into imaginative stories.
  • Creating the Bardo - a bardo is a travel map for the human soul to orient itself in the life after death. We will attempt to create a communal bardo through working with shared imaginations.
  • Act on your Life (optional) - the last step is to recast the imaginal pictures of the bardo into dramatic scenes and act them out to heighten their cathartic effect. This step is optional and requires a two week commitment.

Metamorphosis - transforming your life story

Many unresolved issues in our life are stories not properly told. They are tales frozen in interpretations. Through the process of Imaginal Metamorphosis we can thaw our stories from this imprisonment and allow them to become what they are truly meant to be: personal myths and important steps on our journey toward ourself. Participants in this process rewrite their tales and learn to give and take story medicine in community with others.
