Jan Teagle Kapetas is a poet, playwright, short story writer, artist, editor and community-based cultural researcher and activist, Jan has taught creative writing and facilitated community and tertiary writing and arts projects in the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia for more than thirty years. Her work has involved a diverse range of communities including people for whom English is not a first language, (immigrant, refugee, and Indigenous communities and individuals); new and emerging writers in remote and rural areas; survivors of abuse and violence; people with intellectual and physical disabilities – as well as new, emerging and master class students urban and tertiary settings.

While her poetry and short fiction have won many major national awards, and she has degrees in Fine Art, Education, and Anthropology; a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, and is completing a doctorate in Indigenous Research and Development that focuses on the role that creativity can play in bringing beneficial change to people's lives, Jan sees her life role as playful and (sometimes) serious catalyst for other voices; all the silenced, the sad, the uncertain, the dispossessed.
