About the school
Horst founded the School of Integral Art (Sofia) in Perth, Western Australia to develop pathways for creative competence. Working with students over many years allowed him to explore new process based creative writing approaches to liberate artistic potential.
Inspiration
I would like to personally acknowledge the following personalities whose contributions to the realm of language have shaped my own vision:
Rudolf Steiner whose spiritual research, artistic impulses and many practical contributions have been the major inspiration of my life and work.
Paul Matthews of Emerson College for first introducing me to the magic of creative writing as well as for inspiring some of the exercises in Lessons One and Three through his excellent book on creative writing, Sing me the Creation.
Owen Barfield who through his brilliant enquiry into the co-evolution of language and meaning has deepened my own understanding of the word.
Georg Kühlewind who through his philosophic work has bridged the gap between word and logos.
John Gee for his brilliant collection of literary texts made for the London School of Speech Formation and Dramatic Art.
Kenneth Koch, American poet and creative writing pioneer who has contributed to Lessons 2 and 3 through his book Wishes, Lies and Dreams.
Dawn Langman, Maisie Jones, Christopher Garby and Jeff Norris from the London School of Speech Formation and Dramatic Art for introducing me to the spirit of the English language.
The Students of Working the Word (now The Writer's Passage) who have contributed through their creative writing.
